Rouge River Bird Observatory-initiated research takes place primarily on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, one of the last remaining large natural areas in highly urbanized southeast Michigan.

Our bird banding operation and bird population monitoring projects have been on-going since our inception in 1992. Targeted projects on European birds in the Great Lakes region, the nesting success of Wood Thrush on campus, and tracking bill deformities in songbirds were borne out of discoveries made during these two projects.
